The email came into FleetMatics support headquarters. The subject: Assistance with stolen Coach BX07 NLY. This immediately caught the interest of support tech David Fisher who answered the call of duty.
Pc Mick Hickey of the West Mercia Constabulary Collision Investigation/ Speed Enforcement Division required FleetMatic assistance to locate a stolen vehicle. This is a true story of FleetMatics on the job!
Here is the story directly from Pc Hickey:
“The coach was taken by a joy rider who has progressed from cars to bigger vehicles. He has no licence and could easily have killed someone. He is presently in custody awaiting interview/charging. His future is uncertain at this time!!
“I managed to contact your customer services number via the Web site, David Fisher was able to give real time updates as they appeared on his screen. I was able to direct our patrols to the location and also update our control room.
“The area was difficult. The contours of the landscape are not good for GPS, we have problems in that area with our collision surveying equipment losing signal. However David stayed on the case with a successful outcome. The Coach had been taken some hours earlier and was noticed by staff coming on duty, then reported to the police. The Coach had travelled approximately 200 miles before it was recovered.
“Please can I pass on our thanks for the assistance given by your staff in the recovery of a stolen coach? Particular mention to David Fisher who stayed on the line and gave real time updates as to the location of the vehicle. The vehicle was recovered and one male was arrested. No persons were injured. A GOOD job. Thanks again.”
