We sat down with James Slavet the FleetMatics Systems Training Manager to get some inside scoop on using the FleetMatics system. He came up with some great technical tips to help you use the system better. We will be posting them on a regular basis.

service_alertsAlerts will notify you any time there is an infraction for a number of different things including speed, idling time, etc. They can be programmed to email you as well. A Massachusetts customer may set this for 70 MPH because the roads are all 65. The problem is that if a driver goes 71 for two hours you get 80 separate notifications. So the trick with Alerts is to use them with scheduled reports. Scheduled reports are that are automatically generated for you and emailed to you. These reports can be set to run once a week, once a day, just on the weekdays, or just on the weekends. So I always advise customers to set their High Speed Report for 70 MPH and look at that once a day or once a week and then to set their alerts for 75 or 80 MPH so they only get notified right away on the very excessive speeds. This keeps the information more manageable. Because the point of this system is to be more efficient with your company and that includes using the system more efficiently.

oracleHaving the right kind of GPS Tracking system can make you seem like an oracle to your drivers. That’s because one of the most useful applications of GPS tracking is the ability to route your drivers away from impending traffic or accidents.

Your fleet management system aided of course by GPS technology, must be capable of managing traffic expected ahead in the journey. This includes traffic jams, road mishaps, diversions and most importantly, guidance about shortest route to reach the destination. This helps in saving time and fuel and also, avoiding the inconvenience posed by traffic loads.

Efficient GPS systems provide support to the drivers making forĀ  a smooth ride on road. For instance, emergency screens, information about points of interests, voice commands and other such features should be expected from the device selected by you. These features are also useful for GPS fleet management, where a business owner wants to monitor every single detail of the journey.

You can have the ability to predict the future with FleetMatics!

Your need to manage your transport business can be effectively served by a fleet management system. If you are searching for most favorable system in this direction, you can find two options coming your way. The first option is PC based management system for your transport business, while the second option is a web based system. A PC based system will allow software to be installed in your machine to help you track the fleet, whereas in a web based solution, you are required to get subscribed to an online service provider.

Now, the question is which of these two options can offer more advantages to your business. If you want an answer to this question, here are few parameters to escort you.

Easy Access With Web based System
With subscription to an online GPS fleet management service, you can access and monitor your fleet from any part of the region. All you need to have is an access to computer and internet and you can manage your fleet from your home as well as office. However, with a PC based management, you are restricted to monitor your fleet from only one machine in which the software is installed. However, the PC based management is more secure, as there is no threat of password misuse.

If you are looking to install a GPS fleet management system for your business, make sure it will fit your needs and one of the key factors is access.

A web-based system provides you with the easiest access, enabling you to monitor your fleet from any where and any computer with an Internet connection. This means you can manage your fleet from the office, from home or from on the road.

jmtransport-test-thumbOver the past few years sustainability has been bantered around quite a bit. You often hear about it on the ecological front but also with regards to business.

Sustainability means “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of the future to meet their own needs.” In other words to keep things going and not just maintaining the current system but looking towards future growth requirements.

Sustainability can be a property of living systems, a manufacturing method, or a consideration as to a way of interpreting life.

What this has to do with you, Mr. Fleet Owner, is very simple. In order to maintain your fleet and the well-being of your organization, you need a simple system that incorporates/automates all the aspects of running your fleet from service to fuel consumption. The FleetMatics system does just that with real-time reporting you can see right to the moment what your fleet is doing and how it is performing. Now that is sustainability!
